Now Hiring: East Region Fleet Manager

Location: Remote Full-Time

Job Summary

The Region - Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, operation, and performance of the company’s fleet of vehicles within a specific geographical region. This includes ensuring the fleet is maintained to meet operational needs, safety standards, and regulatory compliance. The Region - Fleet Manager will lead a team of fleet technicians, maintenance staff, and operators, working closely with other departments to optimize fleet utilization, reduce downtime, and enhance overall operational efficiency. This role is critical to ensuring that vehicles are available and ready for transport operations while minimizing costs and maximizing fleet performance.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directly supervise a team of Fleet Maintenance Managers, Supervisors, lead technicians, maintenance staff, and other fleet-related personnel in the region.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and training to ensure the team meets safety standards and operational goals.
  • Conduct performance reviews, set objectives, and provide ongoing support for the professional development of staff.
  • Ensure all employees adhere to safety and compliance policies, as well as company procedures and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain a schedule to ensure adequate staffing and operational coverage for fleet maintenance activities.
️ Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the regional fleet, including vehicle maintenance, repairs, and ensuring the fleet operates efficiently.
  • Ensure that all fleet vehicles meet company standards, comply with safety regulations, and are maintained according to manufacturers' specifications.
  • Manage the fleet maintenance program, including scheduling regular preventive maintenance, repairs, and any necessary inspections.
  • Develop and implement procedures for vehicle inspections, safety checks, and emergency repairs to minimize downtime and maintain vehicle performance.
  • Maintain inventory of parts, tools, and supplies necessary for fleet maintenance, ensuring timely procurement and cost-effective inventory management.
  • Manage relationships with third-party vendors and suppliers to support vehicle repairs, parts procurement, and any outsourced maintenance services.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing fleet operations, including transportation safety, vehicle registration, and environmental standards.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to monitor fleet utilization, track vehicle performance, and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Develop and manage the fleet maintenance budget, track expenses, and identify areas for cost-saving opportunities.
  • Analyze fleet performance data and provide regular reports on fleet costs, vehicle performance, and operational efficiencies.
  • Lead and support efforts to implement fleet management technologies, such as telematics, maintenance software, and fuel management tools.
  • Review fleet schedules, driver performance, and operational requirements to make recommendations for improvements or adjustments.
  • Investigate accidents or vehicle-related incidents and take appropriate corrective actions to improve safety and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure that all fleet vehicles are properly insured and manage the accident/incident reporting and claims process.
  • Work with HR and operations to ensure adequate fleet training programs are in place for drivers and other relevant personnel.
  • Ensure proper documentation, including maintenance logs, service records, and inspections, is consistently updated and maintained.
  • Stay current on industry trends, best practices, and new technologies in fleet management to improve operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of fleet management, vehicle maintenance, and repair practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to quickly address issues and minimize vehicle downtime.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with employees, management, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare reports on fleet performance, costs, and maintenance schedules.
  • Proficiency with fleet management software and systems, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance related to fleet operations.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented, with a focus on accuracy in maintenance records and fleet documentation.
  • Ability to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities within the fleet department.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Fleet Management, or a related field is preferred, or experience in lieu of degree.
  • At least 5 years of experience in fleet management or operations, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in the transportation, logistics, or waste management industries is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of managing large fleets and optimizing fleet performance.
  • Experience with fleet management software or ERP systems (e.g., Fleet Complete, Geotab, SAP) is a plus
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working in an office or field environment.

  • Occasional lifting of materials up to 30 pounds.

  • The ability to inspect and oversee fleet vehicles, which may involve bending, lifting, and walking in various outdoor weather conditions.

  • Up to 70% travel within the region to visit fleet facilities, maintenance locations, and operational sites.

  • Ability to respond to emergency situations and work outside of regular hours as needed..
