Job summary

The Claremont Colleges Services is seeking a part-time, temporary East Asian Languages Project Cataloger to support the Asian Library by cataloging materials in print and digital formats, with a focus on Japanese backlog. The role emphasizes metadata work, authority control, and collaboration with library staff.

Hours up to 15 per week for about 10 months, with occasional evenings or weekends. Compensation is $24 per hour, benefits may be limited due to temporary status.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent.
• Experience in cataloging and/or digital projects preferred.
• Knowledge of East Asian languages; Japanese preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform copy and complex copy cataloging for materials in Asian Library, Special Collections, the general collection, Claremont Colleges Digital Library, and Scholarship @ Claremont by adhering to cataloging standards.
• Update authority records and bibliographic headings to maintain a controlled vocabulary and improve discoverability.
• Assist in Asian Library planning, outreach, and events as needed.
