Job summary

The Claremont Colleges Services seeks a part-time East Asian Languages Project Cataloger for The Claremont Colleges Library. The role focuses on cataloging Asian Library materials in print and digital formats, prioritizing the Japanese backlog, and supporting library outreach and programs.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor's degree, cataloging/digital project experience, proficiency in an East Asian language (Japanese preferred), and familiarity with MARC 21, RDA, AACR2, and OCLC systems.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent.
Experience in cataloging and/or digital projects.
Proficiency in East Asian language, preferably Japanese.
Knowledge of cataloging standards including RDA and AACR2.
Familiarity with OCLC WMS and OCLC Connexion.
Knowledge of metadata standards and schemes.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Detail-oriented work.
Fluency in written and spoken English.
Demonstrated technical aptitude.
Preferred: experience with rare book digitization and bibliographical proficiency in Chinese and Korean.

Responsibilities

Cataloging and metadata work for Asian Library materials in print and digital formats.
Perform copy and complex copy cataloging per standards.
Maintain authority records and update bibliographic headings.
Assign subject headings and Cutter/class numbers as needed.
Participate in Asian Library meetings and planning.
Assist in exhibitions, outreach and donor relations as needed.
