Job summary

Evergy is seeking an Early-Stage Development Engineer to support the initial design, environmental diligence, and permitting for generation projects in its service territory. The role involves coordinating preliminary designs, evaluating feasibility, and interfacing with landowners and officials.

Reporting to the Manager - Early-Stage Development, you will work on projects spanning combustion turbines, solar, and battery energy storage systems, with multi-year timelines and multi-disciplinary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with power generation or utility project exposure.
• Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage development activities.
• Strong writing and communication skills for technical documents.

Responsibilities

• Identify and advance early-stage generation projects (gas, solar, BESS) in the service territory.
• Conduct technical feasibility, site screening, concept layouts, and risk assessment.
• Support interconnection activities with internal teams and external studies.
• Develop environmental and permitting strategies and engage stakeholders.
• Coordinate third-party consultants and ensure schedule/budget alignment.
• Contribute to project cost estimates and economic evaluations.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to align technical work with regulatory needs.
• Prepare technical summaries and present recommendations for advancement.
