Charles E. Lakin YMCA in Council Bluffs, IA is seeking a Part-Time Assistant Teacher/Facilitator to support early learning programming.

The role emphasizes building achievement and belonging for youth and strengthening family relationships through guided activities. Responsibilities include assisting curriculum delivery, supervising children, engaging parents, and ensuring a safe, clean environment across YMCA locations.

Qualifications

• Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state licensing regulations.
• At least 16 years of age.
• Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
• Ability to implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
• Complete within 30 days of hire: BLS CPR; First Aid; Emergency Oxygen Administration (provided by YMCA).
• Ability to relate effectively to and develop meaningful relationships with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community, including ADA compliance.
• Successful clearance of background check required.
• Follow youth boundaries policies and abuse risk management training.
• Report suspicious behavior, policy violations, and adhere to mandated abuse reporting and responsibilities.
• Complete all required abuse prevention training prior to first shift.

Responsibilities

• Assists classroom teacher to implement curriculum within the established guidelines.
• Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
• Supervises children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate.
• Follows all procedures and standards and maintains safety.
• Cultivates positive relationships, participates in parent conferences, and maintains effective communication with parents; engages parents as volunteers.
• Maintains a clean and safe program site and equipment.
• Maintains required program records.
• Supports fundraising efforts, attends family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
