Position Title

Social Studies Teacher (Grades 4 - 8)

Compensation

Base $66,500, Experience $200 per year, Advanced Degree-Masters $3,000; PhD $5,000. Comprehensive Benefits: Health (Medical, Vision, Dental), Short Term Disability, AAE, & Pension

Summary

Under the general supervision of the School Director, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. (Masters preferred)
  • New Jersey Certification (CE,CEAS) with subject matter specialization: Social Studies/History.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the use of various technological software and equipment for tasks such as, but not limited to, word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual presentations, and telecommunications.
  • Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school-related matters.
  • Knowledge of child growth and development, individual differences in ability, personality and interests and learning/motivational techniques.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of grade specific school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work; parents, students and faculty etc.
  • Prior to employment, the following must be addressed:
  • Required to complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person's offense.
  • Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.2.
  • Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6A:32-3.

Requirements/Environmental Conditions

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual small group instruction as needed.
  • Conducts instruction with the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms with school standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinates with other staff members, especially within grade level and specific subjects, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
  • Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the School Director and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Experience

Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

Qualifications Profile

For grades 4 & 5, NJ Certification (K - 6) with a Background and/or Strong Desire to teach Social Studies. For grades 6-8, must hold a NJ Certification with Subject Matter Specialization:Social Studies

Equipment

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Works in standard office and school building environments.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with New Jersey state law (Title 18A) and the iLearn Schools Inc. board policies and procedures.
