Job summary

Westmoreland Intermediate Unit is seeking a qualified Classroom Assistant for our Early Intervention Program at Clairview School. The role supports teachers in educating and training special education children, freeing up teaching time by handling non-instructional tasks under supervision.

Minimum AA/AS or 2 years post-secondary, 0–3 years experience, and a starting wage of $17.00 per hour. Position is full-time with 184 workdays and requires Act 34/42/151 clearances and transportation

Qualifications

• Knowledge of documentation standards and ability to meet expectations.
• Knowledge of Pennsylvania Special Education regulations.
• Ability to use technology as applicable.
• Ability to work with diverse groups of students.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team.

Responsibilities

• Greet and assist students at the bus.
• Help students with wraps, bathing, feeding and toileting.
• Lead students in recreational and training games.
• Assist teacher in achieving individual goals.
• Prepare and issue materials for lessons.
• Maintain classroom housekeeping and supplies.
• Assist with record keeping and attend meetings.
• Secure instructional materials from various sources.
• Reinforce learning per teacher instructions.
• Support use of teaching devices and materials.
• Follow teacher's reinforcement activities in all areas.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
