Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, or Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education, Human Services or related field
  • Minimum of one year of successful experience as an educator or caregiver in licensed preschool or child care
  • Minimum of one year of successful experience working with families and coordinating home visits preferred
  • Professional knowledge of infant/toddler growth and development, and sensitivity to families' needs
  • Must be physically able for examinations and to interact with children of varying sizes
  • Valid driver's license may be required for driving duties

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all applicable policies, procedures, rules and regulations
  • Coordinate with Education and Early Childhood Development Coordinator
  • Conduct screening and assessment of children and assist parents with development plans
  • Plan individualized home visits with parents
  • Maintain a regular calendar of weekly home visits per family per Head Start standards
  • Plan and implement socialization experiences with parents and staff
  • Coordinate monthly parent trainings as part of socialization
  • Maintain lending library and resource room for parents
  • Coordinate with program staff and volunteers for socialization activities
  • Maintain child and family records securely and confidentially
  • Oversee home visiting supplies, equipment, classrooms and parent meeting spaces

Job Description

This is a full-time, non-exempt, full year position working 33 hours per week. The Early Head Start Home Visitors provide services in both Dickinson and Iron Counties with office locationsat the Willis Center in Dickinson County and the Bates Center in Iron County. Compensation is determined by the ESP II Master Agreement, with initial step and lane placement reflecting the candidate’s education and professional experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical insurance (or a cash-in-lieu option) and employer-paid dental and vision coverage. Report To: Director of Early Childhood Education

Length of Contract: Full Time; Full Year

Employment Status: Union, Non-Exempt

Qualifications:

  • An Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field or a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Human Services or related field and be willing to grow professionally at one's own initiative.
  • A minimum of one year of successful experience as an educator or care giver in a licensed preschool or child care program.
  • A minimum of one year of successful experience in working with families and participating in a coordinating role in home visits preferred.
  • A professional and in-depth knowledge of infant/toddler growth and development, and a sensitivity to the needs of infant/ toddlers and their families.
  • Be physically qualified as determined by a physical examination upon hire.
  • Able to physically manage, lift and interact with children of a wide range of physical size and ability as needed.
  • Driving may be necessary for this position which would require a valid driver’s license.

General Description: Work with families to facilitate the intellectual, emotional, psychological and physical development of their infant and toddler. Plan for and evaluate collaboratively with the parents the learning experiences of the infant/toddlers and parent. Work together with parents and office staff in planning home visits and socialization activities. Promote good public relations by neat appearance of self and proper attitude.

Essential Functions:

  • Comply with all applicable policies, procedures, rules & regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with Education and Early Childhood Development Coordinator and follow guidance provided.
  • To conduct screening and assessment of children and assist parents in ongoing development and implementation of their child’s Child Service Plan and the Family Partnership Agreement.
  • Plan collaboratively with parents for individualized home visits.
  • Maintain a regular scheduled calendar of 1 ½ hours weekly individual home visits per family in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards
  • In conjunction with parents and office & classroom staff, plan and implement opportunities for socialization experiences.
  • In conjunction with parents and staff, plan and implement monthly training sessions for parents as part of the socialization experience.
  • Maintain a lending library and resource room for parents.
  • Implement a parent focused curriculum incorporating theory and practice of the Partners for a Healthy Baby Curriculum and various approved parenting programs.
  • Coordinate with all service area coordinators, all program activities for the assigned families.
  • Maintain reports and documentation of: home visits, child screening, assessment and progress in all education and early childhood development objectives, health and nutrition services objectives and family and community partnership objectives, travel and expenses, assigned supplies and inventory and other documentation and record keeping responsibilities deemed necessary by administration.
  • Maintain child and family records and information in a safe and confidential manner.
  • Be responsible for maintenance of homevisiting supplies and equipment and of classrooms and parent meeting rooms used for socialization opportunities and parent training.
  • Plan with appropriate program staff and community volunteers for socialization and conduct an evaluation follow-up session at the close of the socializations and/or parent trainings with relevant staff and parents.
  • Participate in all staff meetings and ongoing training to further develop necessary skills/knowledge.
  • Assist in the recruitment process.
  • Must have regular and reliable attendance.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Notifies appropriate administrative personnel or designee in case of absence/illness daily or continued absence/illness in a timely manner as determined by administration.
  • Serve as a positive role model for DIISD constituents demonstrating how to be a responsible citizen and productive member of society.

  • Ability to carry out other associated duties as assigned by administration.

Additional Working Conditions:

  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluid and tissue.
  • With reimbursement, may be required to use personal vehicle to perform job related functions.
