Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; Bachelor’s preferred.
  • Infant/toddler/preschool CDA accepted; Home Visitor CDA acceptable.
  • Experience in early childhood settings and home visiting is preferred.
  • Ability to travel to homes in assigned area and maintain records.

Responsibilities

Job description

Job Summary:

The Home-Based Teacheris responsible forthe planning, and implementing developmentallyappropriate homevisitation services, and meeting the social, emotional,intellectualand physical needs of young children and/or pregnant mothers in the Head StartPreschool andEarly Head Start Program. Program participants may include pregnant mothers, infants, toddlers, and/or preschoolers. Program services, consisting of weekly, 90-minute homevisitswill be provided in the home of the enrolled family. Comprehensive services will be offered in partnership with Head Start staff specializing in Health, Family Engagement, Disabilities, and Behavioral Health.Center basedgroup socialization sessions will be conducted for two hours twice per month.

Essential Duties (May include, but not limited to):
  1. Plans home based and socialization activities to stimulate growth in literacy, language, mathematics, science, social and motor skills, such as learning to respond to stories read aloud, listening to instructions, playing with others, using senses to explore and manipulate classroom materials and using play equipment. Planning is to be in keeping with Head Start Performance Standards and the State of Michigan Early Childhood Standards of Qualityand focuses on the parent and the child’s first teacher.
  2. Develops and uses instructional materials aligned with the Parents as Teacher curriculum and the Partners for a Healthy Baby curriculum.
  3. Maintains the confidentiality of each child andfamily, andrespects the culture and background of each family served.
  4. Uses the program’s developmental screenings and child assessments as required, including hearing and vision screenings.
  5. Provides a welcoming and supportive relationship with parents toestablishand reinforce acceptable child behavior,attitudesand social skills.
  6. Assistswith recruitment, enrollment, andrequireddocumentation for families and children in the home-basedoption.
  7. Creates a home-based lesson plan for each home visit that effectively engages parents and children in learning; promotes the parent’s role as the child’s most important teacher.
  8. Maintains a routine schedule of data collection for child assessment including child observations, collection of anecdotal notes, and demonstration of skills to measure children’s growth; completes the child assessmentsrequiredfor the program ina timely, complete manner.
  9. Documentsregular communicationwith parentsby means ofphone calls, email, homevisitsand individual parent conferences.
  10. Assistsfamilies in obtaining needed health assessments, appointments, and follow up care by providing referrals, information, transportation, and other supports as needed.
  11. Promotes familyparticipation and involvement in all aspects of the program including socializations, field trips, health events, screenings, family events,PolicyCouncilopportunities, etc.
  12. Assesses families’ needs and assists with resourcesand actions that help families meet their goals.
  13. Utilizes Child Plus asrequiredto document child and family goals, communication logs, health information, participation, etc.
  14. Participates in Family Engagement, building,staffand center team meetings.
  15. Participates in required professional development hours.
  16. Trained and certified asrequiredin the Parents as Teachers curriculum.
  17. Follows safetyprotocol, including using safety devices, as outlined by the program.
  18. Sanitize educational materials after each use.
  19. Submit timesheetsin a timely mannerusing company protocol.
  20. Consistently models Win-Win leadership.

Qualifications:
Education:

Bachelor’sorAssociate’sdegree in Early Childhood Educationor a related field. Bachelor’s degreepreferred.

Bachelor’s degree in related field with an Infant/toddler/preschool CDA Home Visitor CDA accepted.

Bachelor’s or Associate’sdegree in an unrelated field with a minimum of 12 credits in Early Childhood Education (Infant/Toddler/Preschool CDA accepted).

Experience:

Minimum of two (2)yearswork experience in an early childhood setting. Home visiting experience preferred.

Skills/Other:

Must be able to obtain a satisfactory criminal history check through fingerprinting and to pass a physical beforehire. Must have a valid Michigan driver license,an automobile for travelling,current automobile insurance andhavethe ability totravel to and from homes in the assigned geographical area. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as an effective team member. Evidence ofaccuraterecordkeeping, financialmanagementand data collection skills.Ability toutilizedistrict technology, and work tomaintainproficiency, asrequiredskill sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district. Ability to fulfill responsibilitiesin accordance withprogram goals. Maintains a positive working relationship with familiesand staff.Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position. Ability to work a flexible workday and work week, and work year. Strong teamwork, interpersonalcommunicationand problem-solving skills.Represents the district in a professional manner at all times.Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism at all times.Ability tomaintainpositive working relationships with team members. Discretion with confidential information. Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisionsin accordance withboard policies and administrative guidelines.
