Job summary

CAPSLO is seeking a Health & Nutrition Specialist to support Early Education and Child Care programs, including Head Start. You will ensure health, safety, and nutrition standards, maintain records, and train staff to uphold program quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Community Health, Health Science, Health Administration, Biology, or Nutrition.
• Supervisory/administrative or training experience in a nutrition, community involvement, child care or Head Start program preferred.
• Must provide pediatric first aid and pediatric CPR training within 30 days of hire and maintain certification.
• Must have valid California Driver’s License and dependable transportation.
• Experience ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, licensing regulations, and USDA CACFP.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with HSPPS, licensing regs, and USDA CACFP.
• Monitor health status records for children birth to five years and EPSDT requirements.
• Oversee data entry into ChildPlus and perform QA, generate reports for staff.
• Conduct site visits to monitor health and safety policies.
• Collaborate with county/state agencies and health providers to secure services for families.
• Provide nutrition and health education to children, caregivers, staff, and partners.
• Assist with health and safety training and policy development.
• Respond to internal referrals for children with special health conditions and follow up.
• Monitor and compile statistics for reports such as the annual Program Information Report.
