Job summary

Florida Gulf Coast University is seeking a Lead Teacher to plan, implement, and supervise a developmentally appropriate early childhood program. You will lead classroom staff, ensure licensing compliance, and foster a safe, engaging learning environment aligned with the center's philosophy.

The role requires an Associate Degree in Child Development, plus credentials within six months and CPR/First Aid. Strong collaboration, communication with families, and adherence to standards are essential

Qualifications

• This position requires an Associate Degree in Child Development.
• Credential within six months of hire for age group and program.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within six months.
• Experience in a licensed child care program or related field.
• Complete required 45 clock-hour childcare training within one year.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Meets Florida DCF Chapters 402 and 435 requirements.
• Combination of education, experience, and certifications may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Plans, implements, and evaluates curriculum supporting development in multiple domains.
• Maintains a safe, nurturing classroom aligned with licensing and standards.
• Serves as team leader, guiding staff and overseeing daily routines.
• Provides guidance to Assistant Teachers to ensure consistent practices.
• Observes and assesses children's development using program tools.
• Communicates effectively with families about child progress and expectations.
• Monitors progress via observations to support individual learning.
• Completes required documentation, including lesson plans and reports.
• Acts as mandated reporter for abuse/neglect and follows policies.
• Demonstrates best practices and mentoring of staff and volunteers.
• Collaborates with administration on center goals and initiatives.
• Attends meetings and trainings; supports center operations.
