Job summary

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old under DHS Rule 3.
• Ability to work effectively with young children in a team environment.
• Demonstrates dependability, patience and strong communication skills.
• Previous childcare experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher with supervising, observing, and instructing children according to curriculum and lesson plans.
• Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
• Support the development of each child across physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and educational areas.
• Complete classroom setup and cleanup duties, maintaining a developmentally appropriate space.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
• Observe children’s skills and needs and communicate findings to the Lead Teacher.
• Report significant observations to the Lead Teacher.
• Provide active supervision to ensure safety during all activities.
• Offer comfort, guidance, and positive behavior support to children.
• Assist children with personal care needs (diapering, toileting, handwashing, cleanup).
• Adhere to St. John Lutheran Home policies and DHS Rule 3 requirements.
