Job summary

Bright Beginnings, Inc. in Washington, DC is hiring an Assistant Teacher to support the Lead Teacher in promoting the social, emotional, and physical development of every child enrolled.

You will help implement the High Scope curriculum and ensure adherence to Head Start, NAEYC, and DC regulations in daily classroom activities. Responsibilities include maintaining child progress records, assisting with home visits and conferences, and creating a nurturing classroom environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with CDA or 15 ECE credit hours, and one year of teaching experience may substitute for CDA.
• Must demonstrate experience and interest in working with young children, parents, and volunteers.
• Strong knowledge of appropriate practices in early childhood development, including working with parents.
• Team player with effective communication skills (oral and written).
• Willingness to work flexible hours to meet program needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist Lead Teacher in developing activities promoting social, emotional, and physical development per Head Start and DC regulations.
• Maintain records on each child’s progress for planning and compliance with Head Start standards.
• Support full implementation of Head Start, NAEYC, and Title 29: DCMR standards in daily operations.
• Observe and review each child’s progress and develop portfolios and plans.
• Establish positive relationships with children and families to promote growth and self-esteem.
