Job summary

Save the Children is seeking a Program Aide to provide educational, relational, and social experiences for infants to preschool children. You will report to the Education & Inclusion Manager or Center Director and may travel to program sites or conduct home visits.

Responsibilities include assisting classroom staff, supporting kitchen and janitorial duties, and helping with daily operations while upholding child safety and safeguarding obligations.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Minimum high school diploma or GED.
• Certification as applicable by Head Start or childcare regulations.
• Within 90 days of employment, obtain basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification.
• Demonstrated knowledge of working with infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children.
• Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Demonstrated ability to relate sensitively with children and to work with staff, parents and families.
• Proven ability to follow directions and take initiative.
• Demonstrated ability to keep all information on families confidential.
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Apply clear practice and procedures in day-to-day execution of the job.
• Organize self and manage time to get things done.
• Keep manager informed of important issues.
• Build effective relationships within the workgroup and with children/families.
• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Assist classroom staff in all classroom activities.
• Assist Teacher in various program aspects (Family Nights, newsletters, etc.).
• Serve as a temporary substitute for the Assistant Teacher or Teacher.
• Provide custodial support as needed (cleaning, stock bathrooms, secure buildings).
• Complete routine kitchen/dining room chores and meal service tasks.
• Assist Cook and/or Kitchen staff as needed.
• Comply with local, state and federal hygiene and sanitation standards.
• Attend workshops and meetings; participate in staff and parent meetings.
• Knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards and local licensing regulations.
