Job summary

WSP is seeking an Early Career Electrical Engineer for our Hamilton, NJ office, starting Summer 2027. Join our Property & Buildings team to support design, development, and construction across utility, industrial, and commercial projects.

You will assist in data collection, substation design concepts, and documentation while learning IEEE/NESC/NERC standards. This entry-level role emphasizes safety, collaboration, and growth within a global firm.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • General understanding of electrical engineering as applied in design engineering of large capital projects.
  • Familiarity with electrical construction laws, codes, regulations, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Familiarity with design software (Revit, AutoCAD, Aspen, CAPE).
  • Safety awareness and ability to follow policies.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, collect and analyze data related to substation components and equipment specifications for procurement and pricing.
  • Assist with basic professional electrical engineering design tasks including single line and three-line diagrams, substation layout, grounding, and protection concepts.
  • Provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements, equipment sizing, cabling, AC/DC panel design, and conduit/trenching strategies.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on engineering, design, testing, maintenance, and construction procedures.
  • Develop electrical calculations for loads, sizing, voltage drop, grounding, lighting, and power distribution under supervision.
  • Generate documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field logs with accuracy and conciseness.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site procedures, including documentation and surveys.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks and adhere to WSP policies.
  • Pursue additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
