Responsibilities

In this role, you will manage your assigned underwriting territory in Florida to achieve profitable growth. Your duties include underwriting new business, renewals, endorsements, and other transactions. You will identify new business opportunities and manage agency relationships.

1. Develop relationships and educate agents within the agency network to maximize opportunities and profitable growth.
2. Make outbound calls to agencies to identify sales opportunities and gather agent intelligence.
3. Achieve targets for new business premium, renewal premium retention, and rate changes.
4. Evaluate new and renewal accounts within company guidelines and granted underwriting authority to determine risk acceptability, terms, conditions, and pricing.
5. Make sound risk and pricing decisions to maintain profitable loss ratios.
6. Maintain an underwriting quality score of 90% or higher, documenting files to support decisions in accordance with company guidelines.
7. Meet customer service standards for quote turnaround, policy issuance, endorsements, cancellations, audits, and other transactions.
8. Provide detailed instructions for policy issuance to ensure delivery aligns with quoted terms and conditions.
9. Review mid-term endorsement requests and provide processing instructions.
10. Evaluate premium audit referrals for class acceptability and exposure accuracy, adjusting current policies as needed.
11. Order and review inspections to verify risk characteristics and take action on unacceptable risks.
12. Assist in training, mentoring, and coaching less experienced team members.
13. Determine the need for facultative reinsurance, incorporate reinsurance costs into pricing, and complete related documentation.
14. Utilize underwriting tools to assess risk characteristics, classify exposures, set property limits, and rate business.
15. Support other underwriters as needed when colleagues are unavailable.

Qualifications

• Proven success in commercial lines property and casualty insurance.
• 5+ years of commercial lines underwriting experience, with a preference for E&S experience.
• Experience working with independent agents and surplus lines underwriting is highly desirable.
• Proficiency with Windows-based programs, including Word, Excel, and Email.
• Experience with online underwriting tools (e.g., SAGE, Silver Plume, Reference Connect) and working in a paperless environment is preferred.
• Ability to travel within your territory up to 50%.
