Danbury Hospital is seeking an EMT/Medical Assistant to assist the Emergency Department team under RN direction. The role involves preparing patients for examinations, performing phlebotomy, EKGs, vital signs, and transporting patients to testing and units. Collaboration with ED staff ensures throughput and patient satisfaction.
Required: EMT/MA certification or nursing student status, CPR. One year ED experience preferred, with phlebotomy/EKG training desirable.
Assists the Emergency Department team by providing quality patient care, working under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse. Prepares patients for examination, maintains communication with RNs and ED providers regarding patient status changes, transports patients to testing and other units, performs and documents phlebotomy, EKGs, blood sugars, bladder scans, and other care as directed and within the scope of certifications and training, ensures patient satisfaction by providing constant communication with patients and their families, ensures treatment areas are appropriately stocked and equipment is available and in proper working order, works proactively with other team members to maintain department throughput.
Required: Current EMT or Medical Assistant certification, or Nursing student, or one year prior ED experience. CPR certification required.
Minimum Experience: one year.
Desired: Phlebotomy, EKG training, direct patient care skills.
Manual: Significant manual skills/motor coordination & finger dexterity.
Occupational: Significant occupational risk.
Physical Effort: Medium to heavy effort, may exert up to 35 lbs. force.
Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
