Job summary

Northwell Health in Danbury Hospital is seeking a clerical associate to support the Emergency Department with patient throughput, data entry, and cross‑department coordination.

You will navigate multiple clinical applications, communicate clearly with the care team, and help maintain accurate patient records while complying with hospital standards.

Qualifications

  • Data entry and ability to navigate a multi-application environment.
  • Minimum experience: six months.
  • Desirable: MS Word and MS Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and performs clerical needs of the unit based on clinical requests and monitoring of patient activity.
  • Provides input to charge nurse and manager with staffing processes.
  • Maintains proficiency in system applications (HMED, Cerner, Invision, Teletracking).
  • Completes scanning and ensures correct patient/document linkage for accurate charting.
  • Handles alerts (Trauma, Stroke, STEMI) and related tasks.
  • Maintains downtime process knowledge and related system impacts.
  • Interacts with phlebotomy, radiology, respiratory, and other staff to support patient care.
  • Follows Disaster Plan tasks to aid patient throughput.
  • Organizes logs/files to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Delivers age-appropriate information to patients during shifts and communicates with the care team.
  • Ensures patient satisfaction through clear communication and timely transfers.
  • Manages various supplies (forms, labels, paper, etc.).
  • Develops effective working relationships with health care team and patients.

Summary

Provides clerical support, coordinates general activity and communicates clearly with all disciplines. Assists with patient through-put and other related tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Assesses and performs clerical needs of the unit based on clinical requests and monitoring of patient activity in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent and continuous manner.
  • Provides input to charge nurse, clinical leader, and manager with department staffing process.
  • Maintains proficiency in HMED, Cerner, Invision, Teletracking and other system applications required for the performance of required duties.
  • Completes and maintains scanning functions accurately identifying the correct patient and document to ensure an accurate patient chart in EDIS and Document Imaging.
  • Performs all tasks associated with various alerts; may include but is not limited to Trauma alert, Stroke Alert, STEMI alert, etc.
  • Maintains knowledge of all downtime functions and their associated impact on ancillary systems. Functions may include but are not limited to HMED and Cerner registration, Cerner orders, Invision orders, obtaining results, scanning of downtime documents, etc.
  • Interacts effectively with other department staff who are required to provide patient care such as phlebotomy, radiology, respiratory, etc.
  • Maintains knowledge of and performs Disaster Plan (Plan D) tasks timely, and efficiently assisting the clinical staff with patient through-put.
  • Organizes and maintains all logs and files to achieve compliance with JCAHO, State, Federal, department, and organization requirements.
  • Provides information appropriate to the age of the patients served on her/his assigned shift and within the parameters of the position.
  • Ensures patient satisfaction through appropriate communications both in person and on the phone. Provides clear, concise information and timely transfer of calls or information to the charge nurse.
  • Manages and maintains various supplies such as forms, labels, paper, etc.
  • Formulates and uses effective working relationships with all health care team members and patients.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly work environment.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Skills Experience

Required: Data entry. Ability to navigate a multi-application environment.
