Job description

Compensation: $95,000-110,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications

The Role

As our E-Commerce / Shopify Developer, you'll be responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving Primo's Shopify Plus storefront. You'll take ownership of projects that currently require outside development resources while becoming a key technical partner to our internal creative marketing team. The ideal candidate understands both how to build an e-commerce website and why certain things should be built in the first place.

You'll be expected to think about the customer journey, conversion, site performance, usability, and the business impact of your work by proactively A/B testing builds that optimizes conversion rates. This role goes beyond just monitoring and developing code. We want a site that runs smoothly, efficiently, and converts well on the backend and frontend.

What you'll do
Shopify Development
  • Develop, customize, and maintain Primo's Shopify storefront
  • Build custom Shopify sections, templates, components, and functionality
  • Manage and improve existing Shopify functionality and third-party integrations (including SaaS partners)
  • Troubleshoot bugs, technical issues, and storefront problems
  • Maintain clean, scalable, and well-documented code
  • Work with Shopify APIs and integrations when needed
  • Maintain responsive experiences across desktop, tablet, and mobile
E-Commerce Development
  • Build and improve collection pages, product detail pages, landing pages, and other shopping experiences based on customer shopping data
  • Develop/Maintain custom shopping tools and experiences such as bundle builders and product selectors
  • Support new product launches, promotions, campaigns, and merchandising initiatives through product creation, management, and needs
  • Collaborate with marketing and creative teams to bring new digital experiences to life
  • Help determine when a problem requires custom development versus an existing Shopify solution or app
  • Work with SaaS partners that integrate our email marketing, checkout, wholesale and more into the Shopify software
Conversion Rate Optimization
  • Help identify opportunities to improve conversion rate, AOV, engagement, and overall customer experience
  • Develop and execute A/B tests and other website experiments
  • Analyze results and use data to inform future development
  • Work with analytics and customer behavior tools to identify friction in the shopping experience
  • Test new website functionality and experiences before launching them broadly
  • Continuously look for ways to make Primo's website faster, easier to use, and more effective. We are looking for proactivity here
Site Performance & Quality
  • Monitor and improve site speed and performance
  • Identify and resolve technical issues before and after launch (QA’ing before, during, and after site changes)
  • Maintain high standards for mobile shopping experiences
  • Help maintain technical SEO and accessibility best practices
  • Establish reliable testing and deployment processes
Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is hands-on, curious, business-minded, and genuinely interested in e-commerce.

You don't need to know everything about every part of web development, but you should be highly capable within the Shopify ecosystem and comfortable figuring out problems independently.

Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional web development experience, preferably within e-commerce
  • Strong knowledge of Shopify Liquid
  • Strong HTML and CSS skills
  • Experience customizing Shopify themes and storefronts
  • Experience working with Shopify apps and third-party integrations
  • Understanding of responsive web development
  • Understanding of Git version control and development best practices
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
Strongly Preferred
  • Experience with Shopify Plus
  • Experience working with Shopify APIs
  • Experience building custom Shopify applications or functionality
  • Experience with CRO and A/B testing
  • Experience with Google Analytics / GA4
  • Experience with tools such as Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity, or similar behavioral analytics platforms
  • Experience with performance optimization and Core Web Vitals
  • Experience with e-commerce merchandising
  • Experience working with a DTC or apparel brand
  • Understanding of SEO and technical SEO
  • Experience working alongside designers and creative teams
What Makes Someone Successful in this Role?

The right person will:

Think like a developer. You care about writing clean, maintainable code and building systems that won't create problems six months from now.

Think like an e-commerce operator. You understand that a website exists to help customers find products, make decisions, and purchase.

Think like a marketer. You understand landing pages, promotions, customer journeys, testing, analytics, and conversion.

Think like a problem solver. You don't need every problem handed to you as a perfectly defined ticket. You can identify the problem, research potential solutions, and determine the best path forward.

Care about the details. A button being 4px too low, a mobile experience being awkward, or a page taking too long to load matters to you.

What You'll Work On
Your projects could include:
  • Building custom Shopify experiences
  • Improving Primo's product and collection pages
  • Developing new landing pages for marketing campaigns
  • Improving our bundle-building experience
  • Testing new PDP layouts and shopping experiences
  • Implementing A/B tests
  • Improving mobile conversion
  • Improving site speed and performance
  • Integrating new Shopify apps and services
  • Developing custom functionality around our products and promotions
  • Supporting major product and collection launches
  • Identifying and fixing friction throughout the customer journey
  • Fielding questions from each department about the site and its functionality
The Opportunity

This role will have a significant amount of ownership.

Primo currently works with an outside development partner for custom Shopify development, CRO, A/B testing, and website optimization. We're looking to bring that capability in-house so that our website can become a faster-moving, more integrated part of our business.

You’ll have the opportunity to help shape how Primo's e-commerce experience develops as the company grows.

If you're someone who enjoys building things, solving problems, testing ideas, and seeing your work directly impact an e-commerce business , we'd love to hear from you.

  • $95,000-110,000 annual salary based on experience
  • Compensations for Health, Vision and Dental Benefits
  • Paid time off
  • In-house position working directly with Primo's marketing, creative, and e-commerce teams
  • Opportunity for increased responsibility and compensation as the e-commerce organization grows
