Job summary

Anniston City Board of Education is seeking a Special Education Teacher for a 9-month school year (187 days). The role reports to the Principal and Senior Director of Special Education and requires Alabama certification in Special Education.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Alabama Professional Educator Certificate in Special Education.
• Other qualifications as the board may require.

Responsibilities

• Maintains order and discipline in his/her classroom.
• Prepares for cases assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal.
• Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student group.
• Strives to implement by instruction and action the school system’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
• Evaluates student progress on a regular basis.
• Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, system policy, and administrative regulations.
• Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
• Makers provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
• Attends and participates in faculty meetings and department meetings.
• Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
• Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
• Provides for his/her professional growth through an ongoing program of special education workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
• Maintains and supports all Special Education Federal and State requests.
• Performs such other duties as the principal may determine.

Education

Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university
