Job summary

Dothan City Schools in Alabama seeks a Special Education Teacher for a nine-month position under the Special Education Recruitment, Retention, and Incentive Program. A valid Alabama Teaching Certificate in Special Education is required. The program provides a $6,000 incentive over 3 years, with eligibility based on a three-year service commitment.

Board-approved salary schedule applies. Responsibilities include delivering approved curricula, maintaining records, and collaborating with colleagues

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution.
• Certified by the State of Alabama in the appropriate area.
• Must meet highly qualified status as determined by Alabama State Department of Education.
• Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

Responsibilities

• Uphold and enforce school rules, regulations, and policies.
• Participate in school and system operations through meetings and committees.
• Avoid conflicts with other employment to fulfill teacher duties.
• Adhere to Code of Ethics for teachers.
• Follow courses of study approved by the State Board of Education and local boards.
• Foster citizenship, self-discipline, morality, and patriotism in students.
• Meet and instruct classes at designated locations and times.
• Maintain a conducive classroom environment within resource limits.
• Establish discipline and supervise students.
• Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation.
• Maintain accurate records as required by policy and law.
• Evaluate student progress per established procedures.
• Seek specialist assistance when needed and refer as appropriate.
• Protect students and school property; ensure safety.
• Be available to students/parents outside instructional time as mutually agreed.
• Collaborate with staff on activities, goals, and instructional methods.
• Assist in selecting instructional materials and resources.
• Participate in extracurricular activities as agreed.
• Attend faculty meetings regularly.
• Maintain professional relations with parents and community.
• Promote good public relations for school systems.
• Maintain and improve professional competence.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
