Job summary

Alexandria City Public Schools is seeking an Instructional Assistant I - Student Attendant to support students with IEPs under a certified special education teacher. Responsibilities include observing progress, implementing instruction and behavior plans, and assisting with daily classroom activities on a 10-month basis.

The role requires at least 48 college credits or AA degree (or demonstrated college-level skills), and experience in related duties.

Qualifications

• 48 college credits or AA degree, or demonstrate college-level skills in spelling, reading, writing and math via proficiency test.
• Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) encouraged.
• Job related experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Adapts activities and materials under teacher direction for assigned students.
• Assists students with disabilities on and off the bus.
• Assists with breakfast, lunch, snack, and hygiene tasks.
• Convenes with teachers to assess progress and IE P objectives.
• Implements instruction for individuals or small groups to meet goals.
• Executes behavior plans to support students' needs.
• Instructs students to meet remediation goals.
• Maintains instructional materials and student records.
• Monitors safety in classroom and during activities.
• Performs data recording and clerical tasks to support the teacher.
