Job summary

Peralta Community College District is seeking qualified Part-Time Faculty to provide high-quality mathematics instruction at Laney College in Oakland, CA. Assignments are made on an as-needed basis and may include day, evening, weekend, online or hybrid classes.

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the discipline and provide official transcripts and detailed work history; equivalency processes are described in district procedures and may be requested in writing.

Qualifications

Possession of a Master's in mathematics or applied mathematics OR Possession of a Bachelor's in either of the above AND a Master's degree in statistics, physics or mathematics education.
Understanding of, sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of Peralta Colleges' students, faculty, staff and community.

Responsibilities

Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved course outlines and student learning outcomes.
Prepare and deliver effective, student-centered instruction using evidence-based teaching practices.
Develop and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials, assignments, and assessments.
Evaluate student performance in a timely and equitable manner and maintain accurate academic records.
Submit grades and other required reports by established deadlines.
Create an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
Maintain regular communication with students and respond promptly to inquiries.
Utilize the District's learning management system and other instructional technologies as appropriate.
Comply with District policies, collective bargaining agreements, accreditation standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
Participate in department meetings, professional development, and other college activities as appropriate for part-time faculty.
