Job summary

CHRISTUS Health in New Mexico seeks a Physical Therapist Assistant to carry out planned therapies under the supervision of a physical therapist. You will educate patients and families, organize home programs, and monitor responses to treatments, coordinating with an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities include executing treatment plans, documenting care, training assistants, and ensuring safe equipment use. Per diem as needed with varied shifts and ongoing education requirements.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree from Physical Therapist Assistant Program.
• Demonstrates accountability and skills in continued assessment, decision making and time management.
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills.
• Current New Mexico Physical Therapist Assistant licensure.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Carries out a program of corrective exercise or treatment, home program and discharge recommendations for assigned patients as determined by the physical therapist in the plan of care.
• Monitors the patient's response to interventions and notifies the physical therapist of record when change of treatment plan is needed, prior to planned discharge, or in response to changes in medical status.
• Organizes home programs for patients and participates in patient/family training; verifies learning through return demonstration.
• Assists the physical therapist during patient testing, evaluations and complex procedures; prepares the patient for treatment and explains procedures.
• Directs and oversees Rehabilitation Assistants/students during PT treatments and participates in on-the-job training.
• Maintains records of all patient treatments with required subjective, objective, assessment and plan data.
• Acquires appropriate equipment, checks safety, and communicates procedures to the patient and family.
• Promotes team approach to rehabilitation delivery and represents PT in the field.
• Develops and implements quality assurance measures and participates in performance improvement activities.
• Maintains professional competence through continuing education and licensure requirements.
• Ensures charges correlate with treatment session documentation and duration in therapy.
• Maintains productivity standards.
