Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in teaching English as a second language or TESOL required.
• Bachelor's degree in education, English, linguistics, or related field with TESL certificate; may be completed concurrently during first year of employment as a noncredit instructor.
• Bachelor's degree with listed majors and one year ESL teaching experience; TESL certificate may be completed concurrently during first two years of employment as a noncredit instructor.
• Possession of a California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing ESL instruction.
• Equivalency path may be considered with Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic instruction to students through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher order thinking skills.
• Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, and study skills; refer to support services as appropriate.
• Observe and evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, discussions, and exams; provide timely feedback.
• Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes; implement performance objectives.
• Maintain accurate records of enrollment, attendance, progress, and outcomes; prepare data and reports timely.

Education

Bachelor's degree in teaching English as a second language

Bachelor's degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language

Bachelor's degree with any of the majors specified; and one year of experience teaching English as a second language in an accredited institution; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language

Possession of a California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in English as a second language

The equivalent and possession of an appropriate California Community College Credential
