Job summary

Boston Medical Center is seeking an experienced physician leader to serve as Emergency Department Medical Director. You will provide daily clinical and operational leadership across BMCHS EDs, directing patient flow, quality initiatives, and care delivery innovations.

You will collaborate with nursing, APPs, and hospital leadership to evolve the ED care model to meet patient and community needs, while leading staff orientation and ongoing education and contributing to disaster preparedness and

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree and Emergency Medicine residency completed.
• ABEM/AOBEM board certification or board-eligible in Emergency Medicine.
• Leadership experience in ED operations, quality, or performance improvement.
• Eligible for Massachusetts medical licensure and clinical privileges.

Responsibilities

• Lead the daily clinical and operational performance of the Emergency Department.
• Design and implement process-improvement strategies to optimize patient flow and care delivery.
• Monitor key ED performance metrics and adjust as needed.
• Develop, maintain, and update departmental policies and clinical workflows.
• Ensure orientation and training of clinicians per hospital policies.
• Partner with leaders to staff physicians and APPs to meet needs.
• Advance quality, patient safety, and patient experience initiatives.
• Collaborate on disaster preparedness and emergency management planning.
• Participate in on-call leadership to provide continuous oversight.
• Support system-wide clinical and operational initiatives across BMCHS.
