Job summary

The City of New York’s HRA/Department of Social Services seeks eight Social Workers for the NoVA/MRT-Consultation Unit within the Domestic Violence Services portfolio. You will deliver crisis intervention, trauma counseling, and safety planning, while screening shelter eligibility and coordinating referrals across DHS/DSS.

Qualified candidates hold a Master’s in Social Work and must obtain LMSW/LCSW within one year; NYC residency is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited school.
  • Valid LMSW or LCSW license required within one year of appointment.
  • New York City residency generally required within 90 days of appointment.
  • Section 424-a of NY Social Service Law requires inquiry into child-care responsibilities.
  • Eligible for 55-a Program consideration; indicate on resume if applying through 55-a.

Responsibilities

  • Individual crisis intervention, short term trauma counseling and ongoing safety planning.
  • Conduct screening and assessments to determine eligibility for DV shelter placement.
  • Provide on-site counseling services to clients. Formulate an evaluation and treatment plan.
  • Assess service needs and provide individual counseling services to clients.
  • Make appropriate referrals to social/other services as needed; follow up to ensure receipt of services.
  • Participate in case conferences and provide DV consultation for DHS social worker staff.
  • Participation in training for DHS staff on domestic violence and related issues.
  • Assist with domestic violence shelter placement when appropriate.
  • Provide advocacy services, as required.
  • Maintain case records and statistical/written documentation.
