Job summary

The State of South Carolina, Department of Corrections, seeks an experienced security supervisor for a level 1b facility in Columbia. The role schedules and directs a security staff, and enforces perimeter and internal security controls to protect state property.

You will train and mentor staff, prepare reports for command, and manage security resources to maintain safety. Requires high school diploma and relevant supervisory experience; a related degree may substitute.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; supervisory experience preferred.
• Bachelor's degree may substitute for supervisory experience.
• Experience in correctional, security, military, or police work is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Schedules, directs and manages the employment and duty activities of a security staff engaged in the security operations of a level 1b facility.
• Supervises, inspects, and ensures proper perimeter and internal security measures are in effect.
• Prepares, submits, and monitors reports required by the chain of command and policy.
• Directs and redirects security resources for optimum security and safety.
• Ensure that institutional buildings and state property are properly secured.
• Trains, develops, instructs, evaluates, and counsels subordinates to ensure duty performance.
• Ensures proper control, issues and use of weapons, keys, and agency equipment.
• Inspects all posts where shift employees are deployed and interviews inmates as necessary.
