Position Definition

Covenant Aviation Security (CAS) is seeking a Dual Function Security Screener to support security operations at Orlando International Airport (MCO). This position is designed to provide operational flexibility and may be assigned to perform either Security Supervisor or Security Screener duties based on operational needs. When functioning as a supervisor, the employee provides frontline leadership, supports personnel, responds to incidents, and helps ensure compliance with TSA regulations, airport requirements, client standards, and company policies. When functioning as a Security Screener, the employee performs assigned security duties, including access control, credential verification, inspections, patrols, and monitoring of restricted areas.

Covenant Aviation Security offers a competitive compensation package, with a starting hourly rate of $18.47 when performing Security Screener duties and $22.57 when performing Security Supervisor duties. Schedule & Hours

This is a variable-hour, dual-function position. Full-time or part-time hours may be available based on operational needs; however, a specific number of hours in either function is not guaranteed. Employees may be scheduled to perform Security Supervisor duties, Security Screener duties, or a combination of both, with the applicable hourly rate paid based on the role performed.

Scheduled hours, shifts, posts, and assignments may vary based on staffing levels, employee leave, open posts, and other operational requirements. Broad availability and flexibility are essential for success in this role. Candidates who are available across multiple shifts, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, are strongly preferred.

Essential Functions
Security Supervisor Functions
  • Provide frontline supervision and support to security personnel during assigned shifts, ensuring compliance with Post Orders, client requirements, airport security procedures, and company policies.
  • Conduct routine post inspections and employee performance checks to ensure security responsibilities are performed safely, professionally, and in accordance with established procedures.
  • Identify performance deficiencies, operational concerns, or security vulnerabilities and provide coaching, corrective direction, or escalation to site management as appropriate.
  • Respond to security incidents, emergencies, operational issues, and situations not specifically addressed by Post Orders. Take appropriate action and notify site management and other appropriate stakeholders as required.
  • Conduct required assessments, tests, post inspections, equipment checks, and other quality or compliance activities as assigned.
  • Review pass-down information and maintain awareness of current operational conditions, staffing needs, security concerns, and other information affecting assigned operations.
  • Reassign personnel and coordinate staffing adjustments as needed to maintain required post coverage and support operational needs.
  • Provide on-the-job coaching, training, instruction, and performance feedback to security personnel as assigned.
  • Prepare, review, and submit required operational documentation, including post and patrol logs, rosters, Daily Activity Reports (DARs), employee statements, incident reports, and other required records.
  • Maintain effective communication with site management and other operational leaders regarding staffing, employee performance, incidents, operational concerns, and potential security vulnerabilities.
  • Coordinate with site management and other operational leaders to resolve unusual, escalated, or time-sensitive situations.
Security Screener Functions
  • Perform assigned Security Screener duties in accordance with applicable Post Orders, airport requirements, client standards, TSA regulations, and company policies.
  • Verify identification credentials, badges, and access authorizations and enforce established access control requirements for restricted and secured areas.
  • Inspect persons, property, deliveries, and vehicles in accordance with established security procedures and assigned Post Orders.
  • Operate security equipment, screening devices, communication equipment, and other post-specific equipment in accordance with established procedures.
  • Monitor assigned posts and restricted areas for suspicious, unusual, or unauthorized activity and promptly report or respond to security concerns.
  • Conduct foot and/or mobile patrols of assigned areas, including airport perimeter roads, fence lines, access points, and other designated locations.
  • Maintain situational awareness and immediately respond to or report security incidents, access control violations, safety concerns, and other unusual activity.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable Post Orders, directives, procedures, equipment requirements, and other information necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties.
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service when interacting with airport employees, contractors, vendors, visitors, and members of the traveling public.
General Responsibilities
  • Report to assigned post on time, fit for duty, and in proper uniform and maintain a professional appearance and demeanor throughout the assigned shift.
  • Maintain vigilance, professionalism, sound judgment, and situational awareness while performing both Security Supervisor and Security Screener responsibilities.
  • Maintain required licenses, airport credentials, training qualifications, and certifications necessary to perform assigned duties.
  • Follow all company safety, security, attendance, conduct, and operational policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as directed based on operational needs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a State of Florida Class “D” Security Officer License
  • Must have at least two (2) years of supervisory experience in security, military, law enforcement, aviation, or a related operational environment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and meet CAS Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) standards.Must be able to obtain and maintain all airport-required badges, clearances, and credentials.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Must successfully complete all required background investigations and drug screening.
  • Must meet and maintain company appearance and uniform standards.
  • Must be available to work variable schedules based on operational needs, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience in aviation security or airport operations.
  • Experience working in a TSA-regulated or Part 1542 airport environment.
  • Experience supervising employees in a 24/7 operational environment.
  • Knowledge of access control, credentialing, vehicle inspections, patrol operations, and airport security procedures.

Physical Demands
  • May require standing, sitting, walking for various, possibly extended periods of time
  • May be required to climb inside and bend under vehicles for vehicle inspections (e.g., construction dump trucks, etc.)

  • Capable of performing normal or emergency duties requiring moderate to arduous physical exertion, such as standing or walking/ patrolling for entire shift(s), climbing stairs, running and self-defense

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor airport environments; however, the majority of assigned duties are performed outdoors. Employees are routinely assigned to security shacks, exterior access control points, loading docks, perimeter gates, and patrol vehicles. Duties may require prolonged exposure to outdoor conditions, including extreme temperatures, wind, rain, direct sunlight, and other weather conditions common to Florida. Dual Function Screeners may conduct mobile patrols along airport perimeter roads and fence lines, and work in close proximity to vehicle traffic, aircraft activity, and other operational airport environments. Employees must remain alert, professional, and capable of performing assigned duties safely and effectively in all environmental conditions.
