Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, Virginia, is seeking a Drydock Mechanic J4 for the SPEEDE DRYDOCK department. The shift runs 6:00am to 2:45pm, and the role requires navigating ships, reading drawings, and performing mechanical repairs on drydock equipment.

Qualifications

• Must be able to repair and/or install equipment using routine mechanical knowledge in conjunction with technical information and diagrams and ability to make a diagnosis of dry dock machinery and mechanical equipment to determine problems and make proper repairs.
• Must be able to accurately use measuring instruments such as micrometer, tachometer, dial indicator and caliper.
• Be knowledgeable in the use of common shop and hand tools.
• Must be able to perform drydock evolution duties such as diesel engine watch and operation of other equipment.
• Good oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure tanks/compartments has an updated safe for hot work ticket and that requirements of the ticket have been met.
• Ensure conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was written.
• Ensure that WAF ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished.
• Maintain safety and quality control at all times.
• Leave job site in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.
