Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, VA is seeking five Diesel Shaft Mechanics (J1–J4) to join the Inside Machine department. The position requires work 0600–1445 and access to Navy installations with DBIDS/NAVSEA badges; shift is ALL.

Candidates should have a High School diploma with five years of related experience, main shafting and diesel engine repair expertise, and the ability to lead a small crew following EPCP/PCP/CWP guidance.

Qualifications

• Must have main shafting experience.
• Five years of directly related experience in diesel engine repair or outside machinist.
• Knowledge of NAVSEA NAVSEA standards (WAFs) is a plus.
• Ability to complete work with little guidance from Supervisor.
• Basic knowledge of shop equipment and ability to work well with others.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a small group of people and lead the job from start to finish via work specification and EPCP/PCP/CWP.
• Read technical manuals and drawings and assist in job from start to finish.
• Set up a job and coordinate with other shops; replace, repair and test diesel engine components.
• Execute a specification item with minimal supervision.
• Use dial indicators and perform alignment checks; conduct checkpoints with minimal supervision.
