Job summary

Caltech's Quantum Photonics Group seeks an Equipment Engineer, Dry Etch to support day-to-day operations of its cleanroom on the Pasadena campus. You'll maintain state-of-the-art nanofabrication equipment including deposition and etching systems, SEM, fume hoods, and related tools, ensuring peak performance.

You will own equipment operation, perform maintenance, troubleshoot, document solutions, and train lab users.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or related engineering field.
• 2+ years hands-on semiconductor equipment operation, maintenance, repair, and installation.
• Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to learn quickly and document procedures clearly.
• Strong communication and teamwork with vendors and lab users.
• Ability to lift up to 20 lbs and work in a cleanroom.

Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, and troubleshoot semiconductor nanofabrication equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and calibrations to maintain peak performance.
• Coordinate repairs with vendors and document service results.
• Develop and maintain SOPs, maintenance docs, and emergency procedures.
• Train lab users and fellow staff on equipment operation and safety.
