Responsibilities
Job Summary

The coordinator - Drug Inventory and Information Systems is responsible for accurately and efficiently facilitating medication procurement and distribution along with oversight and management of drug recalls, reverse distribution and returns consistent with federal and state regulations. The coordinator will work to mitigate the impact of medication shortages by leveraging available technology and predictive ordering processes along with facilitating interdisciplinary drug shortage meetings, mitigation strategies, and communication to all stakeholders.

Additional tasks include the general collection and analysis of pharmaceutical supply data, development and presentation of such content and various analysis as needed to support pharmaceutical supply chain, clinical, and operational performance goals.

  1. Utilizes technology and supplier/wholesaler tools to support effective and accurate purchasing. Oversight and supervision of pharmaceutical purchasing staff and coordination of purchasing activities for the Pharmacy Enterprise.
  2. In collaboration with the Director of Pharmaceutical Supply Chain, evaluate contracts related to pharmaceutical cost, distribution, technology, and automation. Monitor inventory tracking systems for all products to ensure product availability and supply integrity. Runs contract compliance reports prior to submitting orders and communicates potential opportunities to purchasing staff for review of product changes. Reviews min/max levels on an ongoing basis, making adjustments to ensure product inventory supplies are minimized while ensuring product availability. Participates and assists with pharmaceutical inventories.
  3. Monitor local and national drug shortages and implement tactics to maintain supplies. Monitor critically short and emergency medication supplies. Collaborate on tactics to mitigate drug shortages and work with pharmacy managers to implement necessary changes to purchasing and automation systems. Work with clinical staff to determine alternatives to critical stock shortages and assist with determining and implementing therapeutic substitutions. Lead interdisciplinary drug shortage meetings, mitigation strategies and communication to all stakeholders.
  4. Manages and supports the identification and research of new developments and uses of current systems and applications, as well as upgraded systems and applications to meet Pharmacy Service Line financial, clinical, and operational goals. Designs and monitors operational analysis, dashboards, and benchmarks used for the Pharmacy Service Line to guide the operational and clinical business.
  5. Serve as the account manager for the electronic drug recall system. Manage the drug recall system, ensuring all affected product is identified, quarantined and returned for manufacturer credit. Completes documentation of all medication recalls in compliance with regulatory requirements and collaborates closely with pharmacy staff and clinic staff to retrieve all recalled product. Returns overstock supplies or buying mistakes to the wholesaler within timeframes set by the wholesaler. Leads efforts and works closely with the purchasing technicians on the processing of non-returnable items with the approved waste management company. Leads efforts through collaborating with the purchasing technicians on the processing and return of expired pharmaceuticals by the authorized returns company.
  6. Leads the implementation of perpetual inventory and other automation related to pharmacy supplies and medications.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education

Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy Required

Experience

5 years Pharmacy practice experience Required

Licenses and Certifications

Registered Pharmacist (RPh) Current and in good standing license and issued by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy 90 Days Required
