Job summary

The Hudson Council On Aging seeks a Drug-Free Communities Program Coordinator to lead the CDC grant program for Hudson. You will collaborate with the Hudson Health Department, Hudson YSAP, and local stakeholders to advance youth substance-use prevention through community-level strategies.

Responsibilities include developing prevention plans, coordinating coalitions, reporting outcomes, and delivering outreach and training.

Drug-Free Communities Program Coordinator

Introduction: The Drug-Free Communities Program Coordinator has the primary responsibility to implement the Centers for Disease Control Drug-Free Communities Grant Program in the Town of Hudson in collaboration with the Hudson Health Department, the Hudson Youth Substance Awareness and Prevention Coalition (Hudson YSAP), and community stakeholders. The goal of the DFC program is to reduce youth substance use through community-level prevention strategies and cross-sector collaboration. Supervision Structure: Hudson’s Director of Public and Community Health and the Hudson YSAP Leadership Team.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor strategic prevention plans in alignment with grant goals.
• Strengthen partnerships across the 12 DFC sectors, including schools, youth organizations, parents, law enforcement, and healthcare.
• Support evidence-based strategies and environmental changes that reduce youth substance use.
• Promote awareness through events, outreach campaigns, and educational materials.
• Work collaboratively with town officials, school leaders, youth groups, and social service agencies.
• Engage youth leaders and adult volunteers in meaningful prevention initiatives.
• Maintain ongoing communication with CDC grant representatives and relevant funders.
• Track outcomes and performance measures, and complete all required reports.
• Participate in training and professional development opportunities.
• Perform other duties as required.

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public health (or related field)
• 2 - 3 years’ experience in the public health prevention field
• Experience coordinating and convening community coalitions
• Experience working with diverse community populations
• Experience facilitating groups and meetings
• Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders that have unique needs and varying levels of readiness
• Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and to multi-task
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to understand and interpret quantitative and qualitative data
• Intermediate skill level or higher in Microsoft Office suite of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in public health, social work, public administration, or a related field
• 2 - 3 years’ experience in the youth substance use prevention field
• MA Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS)
• Experience with or understanding of the Positive Youth Development framework, positive community norms and social norms marketing
• Experience with or understanding of municipal policy development process
• Experience with grant reporting and management
• Bilingual a plus, Portuguese or Spanish preferred

Work Environment

• Most work is performed in typical office conditions with some off-site work, for example at community meetings and events.
• The employee operates standard office equipment.
• The employee has ongoing contact with other town departments, outside agencies, and the public by telephone, e‑mail, in person, and in writing.
• Errors could result in delay, loss of service, loss of grant funding, and/or legal repercussions, and could be costly for the Town.

Physical Requirements

Minimal physical effort is required to perform duties under typical indoor environment. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, and use hands to operate office equipment. Vision requirements include the ability to read and analyze documents and use office equipment.
