Job summary

The Rescue Mission in Fort Wayne, IN is hiring a Driver & Warehouse Associate for a full-time role on the 1st shift (8 a.m. – 4 p.m.). The position entails driving mission vehicles to pick up donations, delivering customer items, and supporting warehouse operations at 404 E Washington Boulevard.

Requirements include a High School diploma or GED, valid driver's license, and at least 1 year of driving experience. Box truck driving experience and forklift certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
• At least 1 year driving experience.
• Box Truck Driving experience; CDL not required.
• Forklift experience and certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Drive Mission vehicles safely for mission business: donations pickups, deliveries, and transporting recycled materials.
• Complete vehicle maintenance with records and daily inspection reports.
• Evaluate donor items to ensure store resale criteria and maintain donation records.
• Work with warehouse/back-end team as needed.
• Coach and oversee volunteers and vocational residents; support vocational team.
• Maintain a safe and well-organized working environment.
• Attend quarterly staff meetings and uphold core values.
• Perform other duties as assigned and provide spiritual support when needed.

Position Description

The Driver & Warehouse Associate is a frontline representative of The Rescue Mission responsible for driving mission vehicles to pick-up donated items, deliver customer purchased items, and transport recycled materials to salvage locations. The Driver also provides warehouse/back-end support. The Driver & Warehouse Associate should have the heart of a servant in accordance with Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

Key Tasks And Responsibilities

• Drive Mission vehicles in a safe manner for mission business, including: picking-up and unloading scheduled donations, delivering customer purchased items, and transporting recycled materials to salvage locations. Report any driving accidents and violations immediately.
• Complete required vehicle maintenance with good knowledge of truck operating system, including: maintenance records, daily inspection reports, adequate fuel levels, interior and exterior cleanliness, adhere to specified vehicle load limits and assist with preventative maintenance.
• Evaluate items offered by potential donors to ensure items meet store resale criteria; politely decline items which do not qualify. Process and maintain required donation records for onsite pickups.
• Work with warehouse/back-end team assisting with duties as need or assigned.
• Assist in coaching and overseeing volunteers and vocational residents; support and collaborate with vocational team as needed.

Education Training And Experience

• High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• 1 year experience as a driver.
• Box Truck Driving experience, CDL not required.
• Forklift experience and certification, preferred.

Knowledge Skills And Abilities

• Basic computer skills with knowledge of internet and email.
• Ability to work with individuals of various socio-economic, ethnic, and racial populations.
• Ability to comply with personal and business requirements and expectations as detailed in the Employee Handbook.
• Knowledge of truck operating system in order to identify problem areas, and assist with preventative maintenance of vehicles.
• Ability to communicate with customers, donors, co-workers, and volunteers in a professional manner.
• Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
