Job summary

Estuary Transit District (River Valley Transit) seeks full-time Bus Operators to safely transport passengers across Middlesex County. Responsibilities include pre‑trip inspections, fueling, cleaning, fare handling, and radio communications under the supervision of the Operations Manager.

Requirements include a valid CT driver’s license with endorsements, a high school diploma, 5 years driving with a clean two-year record, ability to lift 60 lbs, and the ability to follow district policies

Qualifications

• Five years driving experience with a good driving record in the past two years.
• Must pass a DOT physical and drug/alcohol screening.
• Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and operate a vehicle independently.

Responsibilities

• Operate Estuary Transit District vehicles for passenger transport.
• Complete daily vehicle inspections, fueling, and cleaning.
• Maintain trip records, handle fares, and communicate by radio.

Position Overview

Full-time Bus Operators are responsible for the operation of Estuary Transit District (ETD)s various vehicles and for the safe and orderly transportation of passengers to and from their destinations. Work includes completion of daily inspection of vehicle, fueling, interior and exterior cleaning of vehicle, maintaining accurate trip records, assisting passengers as required, receiving and accounting for fares, radio communications, and any other related duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Qualifications and Skills

Requirements

• Must posses a valid Connecticut Driver's License with all required endorsements including an Fendorsement
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five (5) years driving experience, with a good driving record for the preceding two (2) years.
• Must be able to perform all duties associated with operating a vehicle and be physically able to lift 60 lbs.
• Ability to learn, to interpret, and to apply District's policies and work independently without immediate and constant supervision.
• Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all coworkers and the general public and to use good judgment in recognizing scope of authority.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical performed by ETD's physician.
• Subject to drug and alcohol screening.
