Job summary

The Driver License Division at the Lewisville location is seeking a License Specialist to handle moderately complex licensing duties in a field office setting. You will review applications, administer tests, collect fees, and communicate licensing requirements to applicants.

Responsibilities include examining applications, ensuring compliance with statutes, and providing information about licensing procedures.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.
• Experience: Minimum of one year of general office, volunteer (clerical), or face-to-face customer service experience. Cash handling experience is preferred.
• Licensure and/or Certification: Valid driver license required. If hired with a valid out of state driver license, a Texas license must be obtained within ninety (90) days of moving to Texas.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures.
• Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CAPPS/SharePoint; learn new software as needed.

Responsibilities

• Meets and deals with the general public in a professional and courteous manner; answers questions about driver licenses, IDs, and related services.
• Determines legal needs, screens applications, and approves licenses and permits per state regulations and agency policies.
• Performs tests/assessments for licensing and ensures proper documentation and payments are collected.
• Inspects vehicles and safety-related documents; provides information on road tests and driver licensing requirements.
• Issues licenses and permits, collects fees, and maintains accurate records and receipts.
• Administers written and road tests; conducts examinations and communicates results to applicants.
• Provides information for administrative hearings and supports department staff with license processing.
