Job summary

Aviagen is seeking an experienced Lead Driver in Texas to ensure safe operation of commercial motor vehicles and to coordinate the driver crew. The role requires extensive driving experience and strict adherence to DOT regulations while maintaining company safety standards.

You will perform pre-trip inspections, assist with loading/unloading, secure loads, and maintain accurate records. The position involves outdoor work, nights, weekends, and long shifts, with emphasis on safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of driving experience
• Must be 21+ years old
• Valid Class A CDL with 1 year verifiable safe driving record
• Knowledge of DOT, state and federal laws
• Must be able to read and write legibly
• Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Experience with live poultry tractor trailer driving preferred
• Ability to perform math calculations and basic record-keeping
• Must follow safety policies and work in various weather conditions

Responsibilities

• Lead the driver crew and coordinate activities
• Comply with DOT regulations and company policies
• Complete and document pre-trip inspections (tires, oil, fuel, lights, brakes)
• Assist with loading/unloading trailers as needed
• Ensure loads are secure before movement
• Maintain accurate documentation (equipment, time, trips, weight)
• Perform routine truck cleaning and maintenance reporting
• Operate safely for long driving shifts and nights
• Work in outdoor environments and in noisy conditions

This role will coordinate work for the assistant drivers.

Job Description

• Comply with all Department of Transportation regulations
• Ability and experience in leading driver Crew
• Perform and document pre-trip inspection (i.e. tires, oil, fuel, lights, breaks, hoses, etc.)
• Assist with loading and unloading trailer as necessary
• Ensure secure load before movement
• Maintain proper documentation (i.e. equipment, time, trips, weight, etc.)
• Clean and wash truck as necessary
• Report truck and equipment maintenance issues to supervisor
• Comply with all DOT safety rules and regulations, all company policies, and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations
• All other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

• 6 plus years of Driving Experience required
• Minimum 21 years of age
• Valid Class 'A' CDL with 1 year verifiable satisfactory driving record
• Knowledge of Department of Transportation, State and Federal Laws
• Ability to read and write legibly
• Ability to work unsupervised and self-motivate
• Sound work ethic, honesty and moral character
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Previous live poultry tractor trailer driving experience
• Basic math functions and skills
• Follow Department of Transportation, State and Federal laws, and company safety policies and programs
• Work in outside environment (including inclement weather) on a daily basis
• Sit and drive for up to 10 hours, and climb in and out of truck cab throughout shift
• Lift up to 75 lbs
• Work around raw, live animal odors
• Work in noisy environment (>85 decibels) and moving equipment
• Work nights, weekends, holidays and long shifts
