Job summary

MTM Transit is seeking a Driver for the Kern Transit service in Mojave, CA. The role emphasizes safe transportation, courtesy, and adherence to client procedures and company policies.

The starting pay rate is 19.89 USD per hour, with increases after training completion. A $1,000 sign-on bonus is offered. You will operate under DOT/ADA/DOT guidance and support passengers, including those with mobility needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be 21+ years old and hold a valid U.S. driver's license for past 5 years.
• Must possess a valid California Class B CDL with Passenger Endorsement.
• No felony convictions in past 5 years; no DUI/DWI in past 7 years.
• Must be able to pass DOT physical and pre-employment drug screening.
• Must pass background and Motor Vehicle Record checks.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe and reliable transportation.
• Demonstrate defensive driving skills.
• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist passengers with loading and unloading from the vehicle.
• Assist with mobility devices and safety procedures.
• Ensure on-time pickup and drop-off.
• Show understanding of needs of older adults and individuals with disabilities.
• Complete vehicle pre-trip and post-trip inspections; document as required.
• Complete necessary paperwork.
• Use tablets or electronic devices as required.

What will your job look like?

In partnership with Kern Transit the Driver is responsible for providing Trolley Operation services in a safe and reliable manner. The Driver will ensure the customer and client receive the highest degree of courtesy and professionalism. This work is done in compliance with the procedures defined by the client and in conformance with company procedures.

What You’ll Do (Essential Functions)

• Provide safe and reliable transportation
• Demonstrate excellent defensive driving skills
• Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders
• Must assist with passenger loading and unloading from vehicle
• Must assist with any mobility device and securement as required for safety protocols
• Ensure the on-time pick-up and drop off of the customer
• Demonstrates understanding and sensitivity to the needs of older adults and individuals with disabilities
• Complete thorough vehicle pre-trip, post-trip, and DVI inspections as required
• Complete paperwork as required
• Utilize tablets or electronic devices as required

What We’re Looking For (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

• Ability to use a tablet, GPS, two-way radio, or other electronic device
• Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
• Ability to communicate with others and comprehend instructions
• Ability to understand highway traffic signs, signals, maps, manifests, and schedules
• Ability to obtain knowledge of FTA, ADA, and DOT regulations
• Familiarity with the main roadways and major highways in the service area

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Must have valid U.S. Driver’s license for past 5 years
• Must have and maintain a valid California Class B CDL with Passenger Endorsement
• No felony convictions involving moral turpitude or narcotics within previous five (5) years
• No Reckless Driving or driving with a suspended license within the past 7 years and no more than 2 in a lifetime
• No DUI or DWI convictions
• Possess valid authorization to work in the United States
• Must be able to pass a DOT Physical and pre-employment drug screening
• Must pass criminal background check and investigation & Motor Vehicle Record check
