Job summary

City of Bartlett's Public Works Department is seeking a Water/Wastewater Driver II to operate a variety of heavy equipment and support water and sewer maintenance projects.

Qualifications

CITY OF BARTLETT PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT WATER/WASTEWATER DRIVER II $56,326.00 ANNUALLY / $27.08 HOURLY Join our team in this full-time role offering exceptional benefits, including comprehensive health and life insurance, a strong retirement plan, and competitive pay.

Job Functions
  • Must be able to drive and operate one or more of a variety of equipment including but not limited to, a backhoe, track hoe, telescopic boom excavator, motor grader, bulldozer, and front-end loader with a high degree of skill and proficiency.
  • Operates power equipment including tapping machines, pumps, sewer flush truck, power saw, chain saw, air hammer, and soil tampers.
  • Loads, transports, and dumps various materials such as sand, pavement, dirt, and gravel.Operates trucks pulling heavy loaded trailers ensuring proper securement of load.
  • Cleans, adjusts, lubricates, and makes minor repairs on equipment.
  • Engages and disengages attachments to equipment using construction tools and proper changing techniques.
  • Performs deep excavations, exercising care to avoid damage to nearby utility lines; reads survey stakes to lay pipe to specified grade.
  • Set up barricades and flag traffic around the work site.
  • Uses various hand tools to dig, spread, level, and move materials such as dirt, concrete, gravel, and sand.
  • Inspect sewer lift stations to ensure proper operation and make repairs as needed.
  • Locates water service and sewer lateral lines; opens and closes valves.
  • Performs fire hydrant, water meter, and manhole maintenance.
  • Transports equipment to other agencies and vendors outside of city limits as needed and as required per the City’s mutual aid agreements.
  • May act as a crew leader in the crew in absence of a foreman.
  • May perform manual labor in addition to operating equipment.
  • Assists with setting forms around the area to be repaired, pouring concrete, and finishing surfaces of poured concrete for various maintenance projects.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of construction safety rules, regulations, and practices including safe and proper use of equipment.
  • Proficient skill in operating construction equipment.
  • Proficient skill in reading grades from construction stakes to determine grade specifications and use both standard and engineering rules to take accurate measurements.
  • Ability to properly rig items for lifting and transporting safely.
  • Ability to read and understand operation manuals
  • Ability to follow oral/written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate instructions and warnings to co-workers.
  • Ability to feel levers and listen to the sound of the engine to determine the depth of cut.
  • Ability to hear and interpret equipment sounds to detect equipment malfunction or obstructions.
  • Physical ability to perform essential job duties.
Education, Training, and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED. Plus three years of experience operating various types of construction equipment with a high degree of skill and proficiency.
Special Requirements
  • Must pass a background screen, driver’s license verification and physical exam, including a drug test.
  • Must be able to drive and have a valid Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes and tanker endorsement and maintain it as a condition of continued employment or qualified to obtain within one year.
  • Must register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Clearinghouse.
