Job summary

Manhattan Beer Distributors is seeking a Driver Training Instructor to assess and improve the safety and performance of our driving team. You will lead group and one-on-one instruction, conduct live assessments, and develop tailored coaching plans aligned with DOT/FMCSA regulations.

You will travel to multiple NY locations within a flexible schedule, documenting progress and maintaining training records while collaborating with safety and operations teams.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Must have a valid NY State CDL Class-A License and a vehicle, with a minimum of 3 years of verifiable over-the-road or local commercial driving experience.
  • Experience in group and 1-1 instruction.
  • Ability to speak and comprehend Spanish is strongly desired.
  • Must have a clean driving record (under 4 points) and valid DOT Medical Examiner Certificate.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and FMCSA guidelines.
  • Ability travel to locations in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Suffern and Wyandanch and maintain a flexible work schedule.
  • Critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability manage multiple priorities and shift focus as required by the organization.
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated and flexible, with the ability to work and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word. Advanced Skills a plus.
  • Knowledge of route delivery process a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the current driving skills and behaviors of individuals, often through live assessments or simulated driving situations. Identify specific areas of concern based on driver scorecards and other means, such as speeding, tailgating, improper lane changes, or impaired driving.
  • Teach safe driving techniques through 1-1 and group sessions, offering guidance on things like defensive driving, parking, lane control, and braking.
  • Focus on real-world scenarios, helping drivers make safer decisions in high-risk environments (e.g., busy traffic, inclement weather, or night driving).
  • Regularly assess the driver’s progress towards pre-determined objectives, both through observation and written assessments.
  • Provide feedback and modify the training plan as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Provide input and assist in executing remedial programs for drivers.
  • Provide training on company standards, equipment, professionalism and processes as required.
  • Maintain all associated records and complete all associated administrative tasks.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership, including but not limited to training new drivers according to ELDT and FMCSA regulations and assisting with road tests. Assist with all other initiatives crucial to the business, as deemed by the organization.

It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors, including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
