Job summary

ADP, Inc. is seeking a lumberyard associate to assist customers at the drive-through and help load lumber and materials onto vehicles. You will develop product knowledge, verify orders, and maintain safety while working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities include greeting customers, guiding selections, processing orders, operating forklifts, and updating inventory records with accuracy. A commitment to safety and strong communication are essential in this role.

Qualifications

• Previous lumberyard or construction materials experience preferred.
• Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification.
• Knowledge of lumber and construction materials is an asset.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Customer Assistance

• Greet customers as they arrive at the drive-through lumberyard and inquire about their specific needs
• Provide assistance and guidance to customers in selecting and loading lumber and construction materials
• Communicate effectively with customers to address questions, concerns, or special requests
• Provide information on pricing, promotions, and any relevant policies

2. Product Knowledge

• Develop a thorough understanding of the lumberyard's product inventory, including types of lumber, building materials, and other related products
• Offer recommendations and information on products based on customer requirements
• Accurately pull and stage customers' orders based on their requests
• Ensure that orders are complete and accurate before delivering them to customers' vehicles

4. Loading & Unloading

• Safely operate forklifts or other equipment to load and unload heavy building materials onto customers' vehicles
• Adhere to safety guidelines and proper lifting techniques to prevent injuries

5. Inventory Management

• Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records by updating the system as materials are pulled or restocked
• Report any discrepancies or low stock levels to the supervisor

6. Safety Compliance

• Adhere to safety regulations and guidelines, ensuring a safe working environment for both customers and staff
• Participate in regular safety training sessions

Qualifications & Requirements

• Previous experience in a lumberyard or construction materials setting is preferred.
• Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification.
• Knowledge of lumber and construction materials is an asset.
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects in excess of 80lbs. Good physical condition to endure long hours in all types of weather
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to safety protocols and regulations
• Must be able to work outside 12 months a year and be tolerant of heat and cold
