Immediate opening. We are seeking a dependable, friendly, and hardworking Yard Technician / Customer Service representative who prioritizes excellent customer service. In this role, you will be a vital part of our daily yard operations, acting as the helpful face of our company for visiting patrons while ensuring that our equipment, building materials, and inventory remain organized, safe, and accessible. Key Responsibilities
- - Customer Order Picking & Service: Act as the primary point of contact out in the yard; greet customers warmly, review pick-tickets or receipts, accurately pull customer orders, and load materials safely into customer vehicles or trailers. Provide a friendly, patient, and helpful experience for both homeowners and commercial contractors.
- - Load Building & Order Picking: Accurately pull, sort, and build complex lumber and building supply loads for customer pickups, willpower orders, and company delivery vehicles.
- - Receiving & Material Handling: Assist in safely unloading inbound freight shipments, checking invoices to verify incoming inventory quantities and conditions.
- - Yard Organization: Clean, tidy, and stack lifts of lumber, plywood, and other construction materials in their designated racks or lumber buildings.
- - Material Processing: Perform cutting, bundling, or packaging of materials as directed to prepare wood products for customer use.
- - Facility Maintenance: Keep the entire outdoor lumber yard, warehouse bays, and walkways completely free of debris, banding materials, and safety hazards.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Prior experience working in a retail lumber yard, hardware store, customer service role, or construction setting is highly preferred, but not required.
- Skills: Strong customer service orientation with a friendly, approachable demeanor. Basic math and linear measurement skills to accurately verify wood dimensions, grades, and quantities. Strong teamwork and verbal communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move continuously throughout an 8-hour shift.
- Capacity to regularly perform heavy lifting tasks, with the ability to periodically lift and carry up to 80 pounds using proper lifting techniques.
- Ability to work comfortably outdoors exposed to changing weather elements, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
