Job summary

US Army Corps of Engineers in Memphis seeks a 2nd Assistant Engineer PLD Class I to operate and maintain engine room machinery on the dredge. Responsibilities include monitoring gauges, controlling propulsion and utility systems, and executing repairs as directed by the Chief Engineer.

Applicants must meet suitability requirements, may face background checks, and hold Coast Guard License of Assistant Engineer Near Coastal 6000 HP or greater; must obtain Tankerman-PIC within 12 months.

Qualifications

• Experience demonstrating ability to operate, monitor, and maintain engine room machinery.
• Familiarity with reading gauges (pressure, vacuum, fuel oil, tachometers, pyrometers).
• Ability to perform repairs under guidance of Chief Engineer or technical specs.
• Willingness to comply with safety, DOT, and USACE regulations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain continuous operating efficiency to prevent damage to machinery.
• Check and control operation of heating, refrigerating, plumbing, and water supply for the dredge.
• Observe gauges to determine proper functioning of machinery.
• Repair engine room machinery as outlined by Chief Engineer and/or technical specifications.
• Repair fuel lines, valves, cylinders, pistons, and components in auxiliary pumps and machinery.
