Job summary

US Army Corps of Engineers in Memphis seeks a 2nd Assistant Engineer PLD Class I to operate and maintain engine room machinery on the dredge. Responsibilities include monitoring gauges, controlling propulsion and utility systems, and executing repairs as directed by the Chief Engineer.

Job description

Requirements
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the DOT rules and USACE ER 690-1-1218. May be subject to random alcohol and drug testing on an unannounced basis.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment and annual physical examination to ensure required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position,
  • Must hold U.S. Coast Guard License of Assistant Engineer Near Coastal 6000 Horsepower or greater.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Tankerman-PIC Barge class D or above within 12 months of entrance on duty.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) 2nd ASSISTANT ENGINEER PLD CLASS I ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Second Assistant Engineer Pipeline Dredge Class 1 tasks such as, handling controls, operations, and maintenance of engine room machinery and equipment, controlling propelling engines on signal, and advise appropriate personnel on malfunctions of work equipment and/or procedures. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Physical Effort: Incumbent performs work from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms and where the parts, equipment, or systems are in hard-to-reach places. Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in a tiring and uncomfortable position. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside subjecting employee to vary climatic conditions, abnormal noises, temperature, danger of burns, irritation from grease and oils, bruises, strains, dangers involved in attending moving machinery, possible drowning from falling overboard, electrical shock, falls on slippery decks or steep stairways, and crank
