Qualifications

  • Heavy physical effort will be frequently required; lifting up to 50 pounds and occasionally 100 pounds.
  • Work around moving machinery with risks of cuts, burns and noise; cramped conditions and exposure to fumes, heat and all weather.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot engine room machinery, auxiliary plants, electrical, refrigerating, plumbing and heating systems.
  • Plan regular work schedules and respond to emergency repairs; participate in improving work methods.
  • Maintain vessel cleanliness and perform repairs to preserve the towboat.
  • Adjust, tune, oil, clean, test and repair main propulsion engines and auxiliaries.
  • Stand watch in engine room; be available for multi-shift support as needed.
  • Be prepared for TDY travel up to 75% and living aboard the towboat for extended periods.
