Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach Public Works Department is seeking a Motor Equipment Operator I / Deckhand to perform a variety of dredge-related tasks in the Dredge Operations group, including connecting pipelines, assisting with winch cables, handling lines on vessels, and cleaning/maintaining dredge equipment.

The role requires a valid VA or NC driver’s license; CDL is preferred but not required, with a $2,000 incentive for CDL holders. A pre-employment physical is mandatory.

Qualifications

• Mandatory pre-employment physical.
• Must possess a valid Driver's License (VA or NC).
• CDL preferred; however, not required; CDL holders qualify for incentive.

Responsibilities

• Connect and disconnect dredge pipelines as needed.
• Assist with winch cable installation and moving dredge equipment.
• Assist with cleaning debris and resolving pipeline blockages.
• Assist with placing, removing, and burying the pipeline.
• Assist with Navigational Aid inventory and maintenance.
• Perform deckhand duties on all vessels, including handling lines and cables.
• Clean, prep, and paint dredge machinery and support equipment.
• Complete assignments as directed by the supervisor based on workload.
