Job summary

DreamWorks Animation seeks a Software Engineer to join the Web Tools team, building web-based and native apps for Production Users. You’ll collaborate across Product, Engineering, and Production to deliver high-quality interfaces, participate in code reviews, and drive UX improvements in an iterative development process.

We value strong frontend fundamentals, modern frameworks, automated testing, and leadership for junior engineers.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of programming experience with HTML5, CSS3, TS/JS and server-side languages.
  • Proficiency in modern front end features and design goals.
  • Experience with front end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue).
  • Experience implementing automated unit and E2E tests.
  • Strong understanding of responsive design, state management and REST/WebSocket APIs.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Production on web front end solutions.
  • Engage in code reviews, design discussions, demos, proposals, and prototyping.
  • Iteratively improve user experience across production workflows.
  • Develop clean, maintainable, and documented solutions.
  • Collaborate with backend teams to align requirements and performance.
  • Deploy applications following studio standards and best practices.
  • Participate in requirements gathering to inform design.
  • Observe users to identify improvements and usability gains.
  • Follow UX design methodologies throughout development.
  • Provide technical leadership to junior engineers.
  • Help maintain feature roadmaps for studio web applications.
  • Act as a visual translator for Pipeline feature sets and requirements.

DreamWorks is looking for a Software Engineer to join our Web Tools development team. The Web Tools development team is responsible for the development, iteration and maintenance of web-based and native applications that offer rich, visual, and intuitive experience for Production Users.

Job Description

“What would you say you do here?”

  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Production on the development ofweb-based and native application front end solutions
  • Engage with fellow developers through active participation in code reviews, design discussions, demos, proposals, and rapid prototyping
  • Dedication to an iterative development process driven by the goal to continuously improve the user experience across all types of production workflows
  • Develop clean, maintainable, and documented solutions
  • Collaborate with backend engineering teams through traces, metrics, and requirements to inform development priorities and to focus performance related development
  • Deploy applications regularly adhering to studio standards and best practices
  • Participate in requirements gathering to inform design and development
  • Participate in user observation studies to be regularly evaluating how users work and identifying where improvements can be made
  • Follow standard UX design methodologies throughout the development process
  • Provide technical and architectural guidance to more junior engineers on team
  • Collaborate with production and team’s project manager to devise and maintain feature roadmaps for studio web applications
  • Act as a visual translator for complex Pipeline feature sets and requirements
Qualifications

“What do I need to have in order to do this job?”

  • 3+ years of programming experience in technologies like: HTML5, CSS3, TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), Node.js, Python, Java, QT
  • Proficiency in modern front end application features and design goals
  • Experience with modern frameworks, standards, and technologies used in front end web development (e.g. React, Angular, Vue, etc)
  • Experience implementing automated unit and End-to-End (E2E) tests
  • Strong understanding of responsive design, state management, client-side performance, and REST/WebSocket API integration
  • Ability to provide technical leadership to other engineers on the team
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem solving skills

“What can I offer?”

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Awareness of UX design principles and best practices
  • Experience working closely with UX design, product and backend development teams
  • Production experience in computer animation, visual effects, or game industry
  • A portfolio of user interface samples that demonstrates skill and passion
  • Experience building, packaging, and maintaining internal npm modules and shared UI component libraries across distributed teams
  • Experience utilizing and auditing AI developer tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) for code efficiency, security, and architectural integrity
Hybrid

This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week.

**Salary range: $125,000 – $155,000
