Job summary

The City of Galveston is seeking a Drainage Technician II under general supervision to operate heavy equipment in the Drainage Division of the Public Works Department. This position performs construction, maintenance, and drainage system operations while ensuring safety compliance and efficient task execution.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, at least two years of heavy equipment and vehicle operations experience, and a Texas Class A or B CDL.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; AND two years of heavy equipment and vehicle operations experience.
• Possession of a valid Texas Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
• Outdoor work environment with potential exposure to hazards and extreme weather.

Responsibilities

• Operate medium to heavy equipment including backhoes, loaders, bobcats, vac trucks.
• Perform safety inspections of vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain activity reports.
• Provide assistance to other drivers as necessary.
• Support the relationship with the public by demonstrating courteous behavior and maintaining confidentiality.
• Respond to emergencies to ensure public safety.
