Job summary

The City of Galveston is seeking a Drainage Technician Trainee to assist in the construction, maintenance, and operation of drainage systems. Under supervision, you will use hand tools, support skilled workers, and help keep job sites clean and safe.

No prior experience is required; a high school diploma is enough. You may work outdoors, operate basic equipment, perform taps, inspect manholes, and assist with traffic control.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent; trainee role with on-the-job learning.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Driver’s License is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation or repair of water and sewer lines, including taps.
  • Inspect and clean manholes for safety.
  • Haul and unload equipment and supplies for work projects.
  • Operate hand tools and assist with light to medium construction tasks.
  • May vacuum and water jet residential sewer lines.
  • Provide traffic control during work projects to ensure safety of workers and the public.
  • Assist other workers to ensure smooth workflow on the job site.
  • Support the relationship between the City of Galveston and the public; maintain confidentiality; perform other duties as assigned.
  • Employees may be required to work to provide for safety and vital services during emergencies.
